Ven. Samten Phuntchok Rinpoche
In 1961, Samten Rinpoche travelled all the way to Mysore to
sought sanctuary at the Namdroling Monastery, which was
under the guidance of His Holiness Penor Rinpoche. He
received Getsul (novice) and Gelong/ Bhiksu (full
ordination) vows from H.H. Penor Rinpoche and underwent a
3-year, 3-month, 3-day intensive retreat and meditation at
the monastery. He contributed to Namdroling Monastery by
teaching young aspiring monks in elementary school on basic
reading and writing in Tibetan, monastic duties and Buddhist
teachings for four years. He also received various
teachings, empowerments and oral transmissions from
prominent spiritual masters such as H.H. Penor Rinpoche, H.H.
Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche, Nyoshul Khenpo Rinpoche Jamyang
Dorje, Taklung Tsetrul Rinpoche, Khenpo Jigmey Phuntsok
Rinpoche and many more.
Samten Rinpoche has also completed the nine-year course in
the monastery prestigious Ngagyur Nyingma Institute (NNI),
where he studied in-depth Buddhist Philosophy as well as the
traditional practices of Sutrayana and Tantrayana. After his
graduation, he shared this precious knowledge with other
monks by teaching at NNI for 5 years. He was also in-charge
of the discipline of the monks at the institute for 15
years.

He is well versed for his vast knowledge on dharma and the
ritual ceremonies of Palyul tradition. He has been the
resident spiritual teacher for our Palyul Center located in
Philippines for the past 6 years. During his stay there, he
has benefitted lots of Philippines students and has guided
them in their practices.
