ANNIVERSARY OF GURU PADMASAMBHAVA'S BIRTH

The tenth day of the sixth Tibetan month, which falls on 20th July 2010, is the anniversary of Guru Padmasambhava’s birth from a lotus at Dhanakhosha Lake amid wondrous signs.  Also known as Guru Rinpoche and the second Buddha, he was the emanation of Buddha Amitabha, and whose coming was prophesised by Lord Buddha in the Sutras and Tantras. It is said that the more delusions and difficulties there are, the swifter and more powerful he is.  When the Tibetans need blessings or protection, their natural reflex is to invoke Guru Rinpoche, and when great masters face crises, even they call out to him as their ultimate source of refuge.

In conjunction with the birth anniversary, our centre will conduct the 1.2 Million Vajra Guru Mantra Accumulation lead by Samten Phuntchok Rinpoche.

THE 1.2 MILLION VAJRA GURU MANTRA ACCUMULATION

Vajra Guru Mantra to be accumulated:
OM AH HUNG BENZA GURU PADMA SIDDHI HUNG

Chokhor Duchen (on 15th July) is known as the Anniversary of Lord Buddha’s Turning of the Dharma Wheel for the first time. It is one of the four great Duchens of the year during which the effects of positive or negative actions are multiplied by 10 million times.

Devotees are strongly encouraged to engage in this wholesome activity with us!

He received Getsul (novice) and Gelong/ Bhiksu (full ordination) vows from H.H. Penor Rinpoche and underwent a 3-year, 3-month, 3-day intensive retreat and meditation at the monastery. He contributed to Namdroling Monastery by teaching young aspiring monks in elementary school on basic reading and writing in Tibetan, monastic duties and Buddhist teachings for four years. He also received various teachings, empowerments and oral transmissions from prominent spiritual masters such as H.H. Penor Rinpoche, H.H. Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche, Nyoshul Khenpo Rinpoche Jamyang Dorje, Taklung Tsetrul Rinpoche, Khenpo Jigmey Phuntsok Rinpoche and many more.

Samten Rinpoche has also completed the nine-year course in the monastery prestigious Ngagyur Nyingma Institute (NNI), where he studied in-depth Buddhist Philosophy as well as the traditional practices of Sutrayana and Tantrayana. BUDDHA AMITABHA CHANG CHOD PUJA

In conjunction with the Chinese Lunar Seventh month, our centre has arranged the Amitabha Chang Chog Puja on 14th & 15th August 2010.

The Sangha members will chant Buddha Amitabha Prayer for the benefit of all the deceased. During the ceremony, the Lama will make offerings to Buddha Amitabha where merits are accumulated. The merits will be transferred to the deceased to help them in their karma purification and liberation. The prayer will also help awaken the consciousness and eliminate the desire of the souls in the Bardo (intermediate period between death and rebirth) so that they may be liberated and may take rebirth in Amitabha Buddha's Pure Land.

At the end of the ritual, the paper tablets with the names of the deceased are burnt by wisdom fire. The act of burning purifies all subtle defilements, obscurities and negative karma of the deceased thereby providing them the condition to reborn in Amitabha's Pure Land.

Interested participants can refer to the attached Buddha Amitabha Chang Chog Puja Form for registration of this puja.

Brief Explanation of the 7th Month

In the Chinese tradition, the Chinese Lunar Seventh Month is known as the "Hungry Ghost Festival". It is where all the ghosts are released from hell for a one-month break. To the Buddhists, the 15th day of the 7th month is known as the "Buddha's Joy Day". This is the last day of the Sangha's summer retreat, where they had observed the precepts and practiced cultivation, thus their merits accumulated are immense and beyond imagination. In the Ullambana Sutra, the Buddha instructs his disciple Maudgalyayana on how to obtain liberation for his mother, who was reborn in the realm of the hungry ghost, by making offering to these sanghas through their immense merits.
