MAY & JUNE 2006 ISSUE

Chod Puja
20 June 2006 - 6.00pm to 9.00pm

Recently our resident Khenpo has been receiving quite a lot of devotees seeking audience to bless them or their family members who are sick, in poor health or face with some obscurations in work or other areas. In view of this, Khenpo has just decided to specially conduct a Chod Puja for all sentient beings.

This is a powerful ceremony in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition and is intended to dispel negative forces whose presence are indicated by incurable dieases, cancers, mental illness, depression, sickness and other personal problems as well as removing visible and invisible obstacles. The Chod rites aimed at first invoking through wrath then liberating through compassion all negativities that causes diseases, accidents and all non-conducive conditions. The ritual is a great benefit to both the living and deceased.

You are welcome to sit in during the prayers by Khenpos and Lamas to receive the blessing. Contribution for this puja is minimum S$10. Due to last minutes notification, please ensure that your cheque payment can reach us by Tuesday, 20 June 2006. We'll appreciate if you can come down to centre to make your cash payment to prevent delay in receiving your contribution

Flashback - Saga Dawa Duchen 11 June 2006

Dear Dharma Brothers and Sisters,

The centre was fully packed with almost close to 90 devotees squeezing among themselves for the morning Riwo Sang Chot puja at 10am. We apologise for the space constraint and thanks everyone who have tolerated the uncomfortable during the puja.

For the first time we have over 100 participants joining us for the lives release out to the open sea in the afternoon. Though it was raining throughout, we manage to proceed with 10 bum boats setting out one after another to the fish supplier. With the help from some of the participants who have braved the rain, the fishes were safely loaded onto the bum boats, where we proceed to release over 1000 fishes back to the mother nature! Though some were drenched and feeling cold from the rain, the event was successfully wrapped up with participants receiving blessed dharma pills from Khenpos after alighting at the jetty terminal. We'll like to thanks all the participants for their orderly manners, patience, enduring the cold wind and rain and also those we have step forward to give a helping hand. Also not forgetting those who have contributed to the Riwo Sang Chot, lives release and vegetarian meals.

We hope you can join us again for our future events and monthly pujas. We promised to bring you a bigger premise with more seating space in a few months time. Please help us to fulfill our promise earlier by contributing to our new centre building fund.

May all of you be blessed by the Buddha Dharma.
Wishing all of you good health, happiness and prosperity.

Thank you.

Vesak Day Celebrations
(12th May 2006)

Vesak Day, a day significant to all Buddhists, falls on 12 May this year. This is according to the Theravadan tradition, where Lord Buddha Shakyamuni’s birth, enlightenment and parinirvana all fall on the full moon of the same lunar month. Besides being a festival for rejoicing and making offerings to the Triple Gems, it is also an occasion for reflecting on our personal spiritual development.

Do join us together with our resident teacher, Khenpo Jurme Kunzang Rinpoche, in the Buddha Sakyamuni Puja held in conjunction with the ceremonial bathing of baby Prince Siddhartha.  This act symbolizes the purification of one’s unwholesome deeds and is something not to be missed on this special day.

In addition to reflecting on the teaching of universal compassion, one is also strongly encouraged to take vegetarian meals on this special day.

We have the following events lined up on this special day as follows:

10.00am - 12.00pm Buddha Sakyamuni Puja & Ceremonial Bathing of Baby Prince Siddhartha
12.00pm - 1.30pm  Vegetarian Lunch Gathering
2.00pm - 5.00pm  Mahakala Puja

You are encouraged to accumulate merits on this special day by contributing to the following:

Categories Individual Family Company
Flower Offerings S$10 each
Lamp Offerings S$10 S$30

S$50

Clearing of Obstacles S$10 S$30

You are also welcomed to sponsor the meals of our ordained Sangha members.

Saga Dawa Duchen
(11th June 2006)

Saga Dawa refers to the 4th month of the Tibetan calendar. It is a special month for practice and performing virtuous actions, since the birth (on the 7th day), enlightenment and parinirvana (both on the 15th day) of Buddha Shakyamuni all fall within this month.

In particular, the 15th day (11 June 2006) is also known as Saga Dawa Duchen, where the effects of positive or negative actions are multiplied 10 million times. Thus, we have planned the following virtuous activities to facilitate the merit accumulations of our devotees.

10.00am - 12.00pm  Riwo Sang Chöt
12.00pm - 1.00pm  Vegetarian Lunch Gathering
2.00pm - 5.00pm  Life Release
 (Participants are required to assemble
at 2pm at Changi Ferry Terminal)

Riwo Sang Chot

Riwo Sang Chöt is a powerful puja that enables participants to accumulate plenty of merits and blessings. It facilitates the purification of our bad karma, sicknesses and obstacles, paying off the karmic debts of our previous lives, as well as increasing wealth and life span for our present as well as future lifetimes.

Interested participants can contribute S$15 (Individual), S$30 (Family) or S$50 (Company) for the purchase of smoke offering items such as biscuits, fruits, butter, incense, milk and etc. that are required for this event.

Life Release

Saving the lives of animals on the verge of being killed is considered an 'intensified' virtuous activity, resulting in the accumulation of merits which surpasses many others. Sponsors as well as participants of this event will acquire great merits that will help to clear one’s obstacles and enhance one’s life span.

The cost of boat trip is S$15.00 per person.  Voluntary contributions are welcomed for the purchase of sea creatures to be released.
Participants are required to assemble at 2pm at Changi Ferry Terminal.
