ANNIVERSARY OF GURU
PADMASAMBHAVA'S BIRTH (24/07/07)
The tenth day of the sixth Tibetan month (24th
July, Tuesday) is the anniversary of Guru
Padmasambhava‘s birth from a lotus at Dhanakhosha Lake
amid wondrous signs. Also known as Guru Rinpoche and the
second Buddha, he was the emanation of Buddha Amitabha, and
whose coming was prophesised by Lord Buddha in the Sutras
and Tantras. It is said that the more delusions and
difficulties there are, the swifter and more powerful he
is. When the Tibetans need blessings or protection, their
natural reflex is to invoke Guru Rinpoche, and when great
masters face crises, even they call out to him as their
ultimate source of refuge.
Listed below
is an excerpt from a song sung by Guru Rinpoche just before
his departure.
It was directed at his disciples who were begging Him to
take them along:
“As I now take leave in
a miraculous way,
You cannot follow me with your material bodies.
Exert yourself constantly in making supplications,
And you will always be in my presence.”
On this meritorious day,
our centre will organise the following puja:

One
Hundred Deities are originally found within, which is a
kind of Mahayoga practice. It is said that at that time,
the Hundred Deities text had descended on the rooftop of
the India King of Ja's palace. On it
appeared the golden body of Vajrapani, which is about
one inch tall. Thus the king practice the Hundred
Deities text for six months and he saw Varjrasattva who
bestowed blessing to him, which allow him to have the
full understanding of the text. Upon realization of the
text, the king transmits all the teachings on the text
to Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche). When Padmasambhava was
on his way to the Westsouth of Roksha, he transmitted
the Hundred Deities' teachings to his disciples. Lady
Yeshe Tshogyal then uses the golden ink to inscribe the
teachings on a piece of paper and concealed it in a cave
for the benefits of future generations, where she
instructed the protector to protect it. The teachings
was later revealed by Karma Lingpa, who
transmitted it to his disciple, Orthon Jiangpon
and all the way down to Palyul lineage master, His
Holiness, Penor Rinpoche.
It is
said that whoever see, hear or touch the text of the
Hundred Deities will be blessed. Just like a white
magical pill that can cure all kinds of illness or a
wish-fulfilling jewel that can fulfill all the wishes of
the sentient beings. If ones are able to receive the
Hundred Deities Empowerment, practice it and abide by
the samaya (precepts), ones will gain realization, be
cleared of all the obstacles for this lifetime and also
have all their wishes come true. Then in their next
life, they will be able to realize the nature of the
Hundred Deities within them.
The benefits of Chang Chod puja: -
-
Merits accumulated from making offerings are
dedicated to the deceased ones to help them in their
karma purification and liberation.
-
