RIWO SANG CHÖT

Riwo Sang Chöt, “The Mountain of Burnt Offering”, is a form of smoke offering made to all the Buddhas, Deities, Dharma Protectors and Dakinis. It was a terma teaching concealed by Guru Rinpoche in order to benefit the future generations. He gave explicit prophecies regarding the future manifestation of this sacred teaching, and accordingly, it was revealed by Terton Lhatsun Namkha Jigme.

This powerful puja enables participants to accumulate merits and blessings. It facilitates the purification of our bad karma, sicknesses and obstacles, paying off the karmic debts of our previous lives, as well as increasing wealth and life spans for our present and future lives.

Our centre will conduct the puja on 1st January between 10am to 12pm. Participants may register for the puja at $10 per person. The registration included offering items like biscuits, fruits, butter, milk and etc.

LUNGTA  (WIND HORSE) PRAYER FLAGS

Lungta, usually in the form of colorful paper or flags, have block-printed prayers, mantras, animals and other auspicious symbols imprinted on them. "Lung" means wind or space signifying universal foundation and omni pervasiveness. "Ta" refers to the greatest speed at which the horse can travel. Together, Lungta connotes the swift delivery of messages and blessings to all sentient beings with the incredible strength of the horse and force of the wind.

The flag as a whole is also a representation of the body, speech and mind of the Buddha. The flag itself as the Buddha body, the mantras/ prayers printed as the Buddha speech and the meaning of the prayers as the Buddha mind.

The practice of releasing lungta began with an Indian King who caught a mysterious disease. He consulted several doctors but none of them were able to cure him. Finally, he approached Buddha for his advice. Buddha saw that the king's condition was a result of the obstacles given to him by other sentient beings (as differentiated from obstacles that one acquires because of one's own negative actions). Buddha advised that the only cure was for the king to go to the top of a mountain and with full faith, release 100,000 lungtas. There are sentient beings who do not encounter the Dharma (Buddha's teachings) because they do not have the karma (fate/destiny) to hear or read the Dharma. So in releasing these prayer lungta, one creates the karma for others to know and be in the Dharma. The merits accumulated from this positive action is attributed to the person who released the lungtas.

The benefits of releasing lungta include the following:

·   get rid of curses put upon us by others

·   protection from a lawsuit

·   eradicate bad dreams, bad thoughts, bad actions

·   good health

·   wealth

·   peace within

·   luck and longevity

·   success and fulfillment of all aspirations

·   purify our bad karma

Before releasing the lungta, a smoke puja/ritual is done in the morning to invite mountain, land spirits, local gods, nagas. After the smoke puja, the lungta is dispersed from the top of a mountain, sea or any clean high place with wind blowing so that the prayer flaglets could fly high and spread wide. As the lungta is scattered by the winds, blessings upon blessings are shared with all sentient beings.

As a part of welcoming the auspicious New Year as well as raising fund for building maintenance needs, we encourage devotees to write their names on the Lungta. The Lungta is available at $20 per set. Devotees may choose to hang the Lungta in their homes or to request the centre to send it to hang at the mountain areas in South India.

AMITAYUS LONG LIFE PRAYERS & LÜD TANGWA

Date

Time
13/02
Sat
10.00am - 12.00pm
1.00pm - 3.30pm

Amitayus Buddha (the Buddha of long life, merits and wisdom) is considered the Sambhogakaya aspect of the widely known Amitabha Buddha.  The main practice of Amitayus is to prolong or extend one's lifespan.  Longevity is seen as a contributing condition that will allow us more time and opportunity to practice the Dharma so that we can fulfill our true human potential - the achievement of ultimate happiness. It is therefore very important to do the Amitayus Long-life practice.

The ritual of Lüd Tangwa is performed to eradicate untimely death due to obstacles caused by evil spirits & other negativities.

During this ritual, participants will place their cut nails, hair, unwashed worn clothing, len-chag (a type of mold used for rubbing on unwell body parts) into a receptacle (Lüd) containing a figurine of a human being. The figurine actually represents the obstacles and negativities of participants, just like the various substances that we place into the Lüd.  Other offerings like food and etc are also placed into the Lüd, with the aim of pacifying the evil spirits and other negativities.

Traditionally, at the end of this ritual, the Lüd will be thrown at crossroads, but due to legal constraints here, the Lüd will be burnt or sent away instead, thus eliminating all causes of untimely death.

ACCUMULATION OF H.H. PENOR RINPOCHE'S SWIFT REBIRTH PRAYER & LAMP OFFERING

We'll like to urge all international Palyul students to join us in the accumulation of H.H. Penor Rinpoche Swift Rebirth Prayer (short version) from 14th to 28th Feb 2010.

The first month of the Tibetan calendar is known as "the multiplying of the blessings month."  During the life of Shakyamuni, many people asked him to perform miracles to prove his enlightenment. He ignored their requests and moved from town to town giving teachings. Finally, when he taught in Shravasti, the people beseeched the King to order Shakyamuni to hold a contest of spiritual or miraculous feats to prove his greatness. The Buddha agreed and as it so happened the first day he began these demonstrations was the first day of Losar till the last day, which falls on the full moon.

This auspicious period is also known as Chotrul Duchen. Whatever good deeds one performs or merits one accumulates during this period, those actions will be multiplied by 100,000 times.

On this auspicious period, 14th to 28th Feb 2010, we'll like to request all devotees to join us in the accumulation of H.H. Penor Rinpoche Swift Rebirth Prayer (short version).
