SPONSORSHIP OF LAMP OFFERINGS

Due to overwhelming respond and sincere requests from devotees on the sponsoring of the S$200 per piece large candles, our centre has decided to accommodate their request by increasing it to 21 exclusive large candles. These large candles will be based on first come first served basis. Interested devotees who wish to sponsor it must come to our centre for registration.

The lamp symbolises the light of wisdom that dispels the darkness of ignorance. This specific offering is made with the sincere motivation of cultivating pristine awareness and wisdom in the hearts of beings, thereby eliminating from its very root the shadow of ignorance that is the source of all misery in the world.

During the 7 days recitation program, there will be five exclusive large candles available for sponsorship at S$200 per piece, which will be constantly replenished throughout the 7-days recitation program. We will also be lighting at least 100 tealight candles on every recitation session conducted in the centre. You are welcome to contribute at S$2 per tealight candle for each recitation session. Do encourage all your family and friends to light as many candles as possible during the merits multiplying month.

Your generous sponsorship will be greatly appreciated, as the sponsorship funds would tremendously aid in defraying the expenses incurred for the full 7-days event. Surpluses, if any, will be channelled to our centre’s building fund.

IMPORTANT INSTRUCTION ON HOW TO COUNT YOUR ACCUMULATION

Participants are encouraged to submit their accumulation in the counts of hundred(s). Every 1 completed round of mala (with 108 beads), the participants are required to submit only 100 counts instead of 108 counts. The remaining 8 counts are to cover off any misread of words / missing in words / an extra count(s) of prayer during the accumulation.

E.g.
Participant has completed 5 rounds of mala (with 108 beads): 5 x 108 beads = 540 prayers accumulated.
The participant will only submit his prayer as 500 counts and the remaining 40 counts will to cover off any mistake made during the accumulation.

For participants who are using digital counter or normal counter instead of mala (prayer beads), please add an extra 8 counts for every 100 prayers accumulated.

For those who are unable to complete in hundred, you may choose to recite in the following manner.
- Every completed 25 counts of prayers, please recite an additional 2 counts of prayers to it.
- Every completed 50 counts of prayers, please recite an additional 4 counts of prayers to it.

A BRIEF  INTRODUCTION ON GURU RINPOCHE

Guru Rinpoche, which means “The Precious Master”, is also known as Guru Padmasambhava, Guru Padmakara or the “Second Buddha” who established Buddhism in Tibet. Lord Buddha Sakyamuni himself had foretold about Guru Rinpoche in many Sutras and Tantras. Listed below are some excerpts:

From the Immaculate Goodness Sutra:

“The activity of all the Victorious Ones of the ten directions
Will gather into a single form,
A Buddha’s son, who will attain marvellous accomplishment,
A Master who will embody Buddha activity
Will appear to the north-west of Oddiyana
(Afganistan-Pakistan frontier).”

From the Tantra of the Perfect Embodiment
of the Unexcelled Nature:

“Eight years after I pass into nirvana,

I will reappear in the Kingdom of Oddiyana,

Bearing the name of Padmasambhava

And will be the Lord of Secret Mantra.”

During the 5th century, on an island in the land of Oddiyana, a multicoloured lotus flower appeared in Lake Danakosha through the blessings of the Buddhas. From the space, Buddha Amitabha generated light rays from his heart into the bud of this lotus flower, which upon ripening an amazing child miraculously appeared, adorned with all the major and minor marks of a Buddha.

As a miraculously born human being, Guru Rinpoche was endowed with great powers capable of subduing not only human beings but also spirits and other different types of non-humans. He stayed in India for approximately a thousand years and then spent fifty-five years in Tibet. Other places graced by his presence include Bhutan and Nepal.

The Vajrayana teachings were successfully propagated in this world as a result of the great realisations and spiritual powers of Guru Rinpoche. To ensure the completion of Samye Monastery, the first monastery in Tibet, he tamed the negative forces, which were creating obstacles. Through his everlasting compassion and diverse skilful means, he concealed numerous precious teachings (termas) for future generations. Tertons prophesied by Guru Rinpoche would reveal these terma teachings. Even in recent times, these terma teachings continued to be discovered, and will go on until all sentient beings attain Buddhahood.

Towards the end, Guru Rinpoche departed for his pure land, the Glorious Copper-Coloured Mountain (Zangdodpalri) situated in the south-western continent. The lower levels of Zangdodpalri are inhabited by Rakshasas (magical cannibals spirits), which, according to Buddha Sakymuni, will invade our earth during the period when the average lifespan of human beings approaches 20 years. Posing a great danger, the Rakshasas would subdue and wipe out all human beings. Thus, maintaining His benevolent activities for the sake of all sentient beings, Guru Rinpoche resides there to protect our earth from their harm as well as to benefit the beings there. Listed below is an excerpt from a song sung by Guru Rinpoche just before his departure. It was directed at his disciples who were begging Him to take them along:

“As I now take leave in a miraculous way,

You cannot follow me with your material bodies.

Exert yourself constantly in making supplications,

And you will always be in my presence.”

BENEFITS OF THE VAJRA GURU PRACTICE

Guru Rinpoche had said:

“If you want blessings and accomplishments to come very swiftly,
visualize me, Guru Padmasambhava, with the perfect qualities of all the Buddhas of the three times,
with all the blessings and accomplishments of the peaceful and wrathful deities of the secret, inner and outer tantras,
as well as the sacred teachings of the Dakas and Dakinis.”

PERSONAL CONDUCT DURING ACCUMULATION

While reciting the Vajra Guru mantra, one should not talk or let one’s mind stray away. Instead, keep your mind focused on the visualization and your mouth on the recitation of the Mantra. If you practice in this way, you will be blessed by the Vidyadharas, Buddhas and Bodhisattvas without exception.

Guru Rinpoche had said:
“This is because my blessings and accomplishments
are in union with the Vajra Guru mantra.”
